ADV
The ADV studio is structured across three consecutive phases—Project Phase 1: Townscape Appraisal, Project Phase 2: Architectural Design Strategy, and Project Phase 3: Design Development.

Beginning with in-depth site analysis and comprehension in Phase 1, the module emphasizes urban response by design, adopting a critical approach to the idea of content as a purposeful narrative (Low, 2010). The process is driven by a central guiding question:

At the street scale, what are the possibilities for establishing an architecture of place-making—one that connects, enhances the townscape, and empowers the local urban community through spaces for social interaction and relevant activities?

Through design exploration, the module encourages the formulation of sub-questions derived from the site’s context and opportunities, allowing students to propose spatial interventions that are socially engaging, contextually sensitive, and community-driven. This iterative design journey transitions from understanding the townscape, to shaping strategic architectural responses, and finally, to developing refined design solutions.
