This module will equip the learner with the knowledge and skills to participate in this rapidly expanding profession and find their position in a sustainable built environment. The module introduces the broad concept of sustainable living within the urban built environments. Sustainable living (or net zero living) aims to reduce societal environmental impact by making positive changes to the built environment. Some of the related strategies include renewable energy, urban farming, sustainable building models, and repurposing waste.

Sustainable Living

Assignment 1 

In this assignment, students will be conversant and expected to understand the definition of biodiversity awareness and community engagement in sustainable city, the word sustainability has come into such common usage that it sometimes seems ubiquitous. At the outset, this leads to the need to answer two principal questions with regards to niche sustainable cities in a local context. First, what is a sustainable city? And secondly, why is it important that cities become sustainable? How can cities be resilient especially to natural disaster (e.g. Biodiversity Conservation, Flood Mitigation?

Assignment 2

Stuents will be tasked to be conversant and expected to illustrate and transform concepts and ideas of the future sustainable city, the word sustainability has come into such common usage that it sometimes seems ubiquitous. This will be reflected on strategic issues discussed on prediction of sustainable issues in a city in 2050 onwards. These ideas will be presented through an illustrative form such as infographics/sketches/digital graphics. At the end of the module, students are to reflect the identification of learning experience of the assignments, module and future application to professional practice through reflective writing exercise.
