Project 2 Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic - 1:1 Bamboo Structure
Reflection
Project 2 was a team project where working with 20 other people helped me improve my communication skills and team bonding skills aswell. Throughout the one month of this project, i was able to identify my core strengths and develop them further by helping out in specific areas such as construction and drawing. Working with bamboo was a challenge for all of us but it was a nice experience to be able to explore construction details and characteristics of Bamboo. Working at a 1:1 scale made me think realistically and more strategically enhancing my thinking skills, that would further on help the people utilizing the constructed structure in question.
This project explores the notion of how architectural design can impact a space and its users and how one can be an agent of change within the context of architecture. It required to design and construct a 1:1 structure for a specific action, in groups. The structure was placed in a real dormant green space to activate its use. We were asked to work with Bamboo and be required to understand the nature and characteristics of the material and demonstrate basic knowledge in construction, exploring construction details, e.g. joints, joinery and structural quality with other supporting materials (rope, steel, tensile fabric). further developing our design through a series of workshops, tests and investigations involving scaled study models, exploring architectural elements and principles (learned from Project 1) and incorporating anthropometry and ergonomics into our 1:1 structure.
